![]() ![]() Do not go to Poseyville! Head towards Mount Vernon as they actually have stores! New Harmony is closer than the other two towns, but they are little more than a tourist trap full of nice places to look at and that's about it. He sent us in the wrong direction down a winding road. Unfortunately, the DNR working in the campsite area was less than helpful as he couldn't even tell you where the closest town with a store was. Having a few park rangers out even once or twice a day would have solved this problem. It chased my husband and tried to attack him, and the owners only response was to yell at the puppy and ask it if it wanted to be tied up! Lots of people walked their dogs without leashes and I greatly doubt they cleaned up after them either. There was a RV a few sites down from us which had a small dog that seemed to hate anything that moved. Most people had their dogs running loose and chasing people. ![]() They allow pets, but only on leashes of six feet or less. Mainly, they really need to have people out checking to be sure that people actually follow the rules. If they weren't, it would have been a pain because it would have likely been large RVs like the rest of the place. Had to walk two campsites away to get water, but fortunately those sites were vacant. The $25.50 per night during the weekend for a primitive campsite with an electrical hook up seemed a bit outrageous to me. The volunteers seem to have the best spots with full hook ups, while everyone else has to share water. When we stayed, there were tons of RVs and we were one of only four tents. The campsites are a bit small in some places but not all, so best check it out beforehand. They have a few hiking trails and mountain biking, as well as trails for regular bicycles and horses.
